This is my new favourite Ottawa pizza joint. We have a pizza night every Friday night at our house, so taste is important. Cousin Vinny's Pizza restaurant is so unassuming. We ordered the walk-in special, which is half-price pizzas when you carry-out. Two large pizzas cost us about $40. We get one pepperoni with extra cheese and usually another 3-topping pizza with extra cheese. The deal literally cannot be beat. The deal isn't even the best part...The pizza is so good. The regular crust is excellent, not too big, and the thin-crust is just the right size. What makes this pizza amazing is the HOMEMADE SAUCE. The owner makes it from scratch with a "secret ingredient" that one wouldn't expect in a pizza sauce, but it just brings the flavour over-the-top. The service is excellent too, our first time in, the owner offered my 7 year old a free drink, his choice (which he was too shy to take). If you're in Kanata or Stittsville, take the short drive to Cousin Vinny's Pizza. You won't be disappointed.
After discovering this place 2 years ago near the excellent Blue Diamond Grill (for homestyle Indian food), this is the only pizzeria we order from -- and we live 20 minutes away from Richmond. The window sign for half-price pizza pickup seemed worth the try. While pizzas are a very personal taste, I've tried every local chain and multiple independent pizzerias in the Ottawa area, and this is by far our favorite. What sets pizzas apart from one another for me is the sauce, crust, and quality of ingredients, in particular the cheese. Like many independents, Vinny's uses quality ingredients and generous quantities. The crust is a standard pizza crust, and although I prefer the thin crust, son Theo loves the thicker one for dipping in Vinny's homemade garlic sauces. The pizza sauce is what keeps us craving this pie - it's a unique blend of flavorful spices (not hot) that sets it apart. I've since learned that both nutmeg and cinnamon are some of the secret ingredients in the making of these pizzas, but you would never be able to distinguish either of these flavors -- they merely enhance the entire experience. When you add to this, the incredible value of this takeout pizza, you'd be challenged to find a better option -- even after prices needed to be increased due to supplier inflation, Vinny's can offer you an extra-large pizza for $20. We've tried the combination, Hawaiian, and pepperoni, and love them all.
